How a Director's background can influence a film

Our next job will be to examine how a Director's background can influence representations, and also how the budget of the film can influence representations.
We will be watching a Shane Meadows' film, and seeing how his background influences the way he represents regional England, as well as the way he represents the lower class. We will also be seeing if having a low budget changes the way people are represented, as well as having a niche audience rather than a mass audience.
We will be comparing this film in future to some bigger budget American funded films to see what the differences are in representations.

ResearchTask

We spent a few lessons looking at the different decades, and working out what social, historical and political events occured in each decade which could have had an effect on the way different groups were represented in the Media.. If you missed that lesson you will need to copy someone's notes on each decade.

You must now carry out a research task where you need to pick two different types of representation (from gender, ethnicity, class, Britishness, regional areas) and two different contrasting decades and explore how representation of those two issues has changed over the eyars and why...

Your examples should be from British Films and should clearly involve some discussion of the social / cultural atmosphere of the time etc..
